Prototype Dive

Dungeon crawler with limited inventory.

Prototype Dive was me playing around with a game idea during a handful of free weekends.

I played around with the idea of having limited inventory and tools-above-weapons gameplay. The player has a first-person view, but instead of fighting their way through a dungeon, they’d have to remove debris and puzzle their way through.

A secondary layer came in when I thought about exploring different sites in the same area, and these sites being interconnected in terms of doors and keys.

The two gameplay layers of exploration meant that I wanted to keep any change in sites persistent, including item locations. This gave the game a very open-world-adventure-game architecture and feel.

Features:

  • Limited Inventory. Custom Item Creation workflow.
  • Equipment and Tools, as well as world interactions with these tools.
  • Full World-State Saving, including item transforms when “Dirty” (Changed).
  • “World Map” to travel back-and-forth between dungeons
